Not beautiful by any common standard, but still intriguing; I made a quick u-turn and pulled in for a closer look.
I wondered around this hunk of metal for over two hours. As
'un-beutiful' as the structure may be, every turn uncovered new found
objects waiting to be photographed. No human had entered these gates in
a very long time; evidence of life had long disappeared, except for a
few stubborn weeds.
Besides the sound of passing traffic, I worked in silence. It was easy to get lost behind my camera. Found objects lead to a buffet of texture, shapes and patterns. Industrial beauty? I think so...
I
gathered the courage to pick my way up the rickety, rusted, metal
stairs. Even though I savored the isolation, there is always the moment
of hesitation; "What ifs" cross my mind- What if i fall through the
stairs? What if the floor is rotten and I fall 25 feet to the concrete
below? What if some crazed mad-man is on the other side of this door?
Fear? Nah...
Courage pays off. Ok, so does a little stupidity.
The
office upstairs had long ago been abandoned by humans. However, it was
obviously adequate shelter for wildlife. The floor was inches thick
with bird droppings. It was rather disgusting, to say the least. But,
it also made me a much more aware of my surroundings. My lack of
ability to actually see where I was stepping made the hair on the back
of my head stand. My caution was warranted; just a few steps in, and I realized, like some kids cartoon, there were trap doors in the floor. I would have to be extra careful!
Upon inspection, I realized that the building had been empty for at least twenty-five years. From the looks, not even juvenile vandals had found it worthy of their shenanigans. Aside from the pigeon goo, it was if time had stopped.
I thoroughly enjoy looking at the photos you've created!
